01 Before we got involved

The Challenge

Turbo & Diesel Automotive Services is a Hamilton based workshop offering WOFs, diesel repairs, fuel injection servicing, and commercial vehicle work.

When we audited the account in February the spend was scattered across more than 30 legacy campaigns built by a previous agency, most of them running broad match keywords on tiny daily budgets, with no negative keyword discipline and ads pointing to the homepage instead of service-specific pages. The audit period showed roughly $1,936 of spend over 90 days, healthy click-through rates on paper, but a real cost per confirmed form lead north of $50 once call tracking noise was stripped out.

Both main campaigns were budget capped during peak hours, 87. 9% of traffic was mobile yet the lead form sat below the fold, and high-intent searches like fleet servicing and diesel specialist work had no dedicated campaign at all.

The account was busy without being productive, which is the worst position a paid media account can sit in.

02 What we did about it

Our Solution

We took over the account on 1 March and rebuilt it from a clean slate.

The 30 plus PPC Hero campaigns were paused, three dedicated landing pages were built on a fast Vercel hosted subdomain at go. turbodiesel.

co. nz covering Car Servicing, Diesel Repairs, and WOF, each one with conversion tracking, Microsoft Clarity heatmaps, and Formspree lead capture.

A single search campaign, LM | Search | Turbo Diesel Services | Hamilton, was built at $55 per day with three tightly themed ad groups using only phrase and exact match keywords, dedicated negative keyword lists from day one, and ad copy written specifically for each ad group. Account level call tracking was added so every click to call was attributed properly.

Eleven days into April we layered in an optimisation pass adding four new negatives (world of tyres, pukekohe, buying, brake and clutch) and a tablet bid adjustment of negative 90% after the first 30 days of search term data showed those segments wasting budget. The result was a steady flow of workshop leads in the next 30 day window at $22.

56 cost per lead, a 7. 92% click through rate well above the 4% automotive benchmark, and brand searches like "turbo and diesel hamilton" starting to appear in the converting search terms which signals local awareness pulling through.
