Challenge
A high-volume New Zealand furniture retailer was dispatching hundreds of large-item deliveries each week through a third-party logistics platform. On delivery day, customers had no way to see where their order was, so the support inbox filled with status enquiries and some customers called drivers directly.
The service team spent hours each day looking up job statuses in the logistics dashboard and copying ETAs into replies. The live GPS data already existed in the platform via API, so the opportunity was to surface it to the end customer.
02
Approach
Built a public-facing live tracking web app that customers open from a unique link in their dispatch email, with no login required. Connected securely to the logistics platform's live data, pulling driver GPS location, job status, and dynamic ETAs.
Rendered the data on a live map showing the customer's delivery pin and the driver's moving marker. Sent SMS notifications when a driver is 30 minutes out, alongside a delivery window countdown.
Captured customer sentiment through a post-delivery feedback flow.
"Our customers love being able to track their deliveries in real-time. Support calls have dropped dramatically."
